"Spellbinder" takes considerable cues from "The Wicker Man," considered a high point within its category, and incorporates some distinctive elements—specifically, the depiction of satanists performing a blood offering. The movie also seems influenced by Dennis Wheatley's "The Devil Rides Out," as the satanic group persistently hunts Miranda (Kelly Preston) following her disappearance. What’s more, the film skillfully keeps viewers off balance until its conclusion; when law enforcement appears during the final confrontation, it isn't to make any arrests. Instead, they are present to take part in Jeff Mills’s (Timothy Daly) sacrifice. Director Janet Greek has crafted a film that moves along at a good speed and holds your attention from beginning to end.
