A Los Angeles SWAT officer—played by Keanu Reeves—attempts to rescue individuals trapped on a bus that’s been booby-trapped by an unstable bomber (Dennis Hopper). The vehicle must maintain a speed above 50 MPH or it will explode. Sandra Bullock portrays one of the passengers, and Jeff Daniels appears as another member of the SWAT team. "Speed," released in 1994, functions well as an exciting action movie intended for entertainment. While not reaching the heights of something like “Terminator 2: Judgment Day” from 1991, it’s possibly comparable to "Under Siege 2: Dark Territory" (1995). Despite being a high-quality production, it doesn't possess the same emotional depth as films such as “Terminator 2” or “Runaway Train” (1985), and the plot feels pretty unrealistic. However, if you’re willing to accept that, it provides a lively big-screen experience—though not particularly memorable when viewed in retrospect. The movie has a runtime of 1 hour and 55 minutes and was filmed around Los Angeles, including Mojave Airport. GRADE: B-
