It’s obvious these researchers didn't listen to Jeff Goldblum in "Jurassic Park" (1993), when he cautioned against assuming that just because something is possible, it's necessarily right. Had they considered that, maybe the chaos and violence unleashed by creating “Sil” (Natasha Henstridge) could have been prevented. She’s a combination of alien and human genetics, able to transform instantly from an attractive woman into a ferocious killer. Predictably, she manages to escape from a supposedly secure facility – one that apparently couldn't even contain livestock – and begins searching for a man. Not just any man, but someone who can assist her in having a child—a plan that’s definitely not advisable! The scientists—headed by "Lennox" (Michael Madsen, who seems rather unenthusiastic) and "Baker" (Marg Helgenberger)—are pursuing her, but will they be able to stop her before she locates someone agreeable? To give credit where it's due, the special effects – reminiscent of "Terminator" (1984) – are genuinely impressive. However, the performances, particularly Ben Kingsley’s consistently over-the-top portrayal, and the writing are quite poor. While there's some creativity in the film’s visual design, everything else feels bland and uninspired, leading to a conclusion that felt rather foreseeable. It wasn't awful, but it represents a significant waste of potential; with better casting and more attention paid to developing a richer narrative, it could have generated a stronger feeling of dread and perhaps even some (dark) humor.
