The leader of an intergalactic entertainment empire kidnaps "Bugs" and his fellow cartoon characters, intending to exploit them as permanent attractions. However, “Bugs,” naturally concerned for his own safety, manages to persuade the captors that a contest – winner takes all – would be more entertaining. They’re not exactly sharp, so they agree to play basketball, despite having no understanding of the game itself. Realizing his team is equally clueless, he needs someone to coach them. Fortunately, NBA icon Michael Jordan had recently retired and was attempting baseball, though it seemed clear he wasn't very good at that either. Will he be willing to return and inspire "Bugs" and company? To make things even more difficult, the aliens have cleverly gathered information to ensure their victory, so the “Tunes” team needs to improve if they want to avoid a lifetime of signing autographs. The film’s visual effects haven't aged well; the combination of live-action and animation feels quite old-fashioned now. Still, Jordan brings considerable charm to his role, and there are appearances from other basketball stars along with a pleasant musical score, which keeps things moving at an acceptable pace. But something is missing: “Bugs” himself doesn’t feature prominently enough, and I would have liked to see more of the animated characters overall, particularly the villains, as the game reaches its tense conclusion. It's perfectly adequate viewing, but it isn’t exceptional.
