It simply emphasizes the trope of the intensely possessive girlfriend, portraying her as a killer robot whose actions are his fault—a concept that feels unoriginal and diminishes the film's impact. It isn’t poorly made, but it draws heavily from earlier films, so if you’re looking for creepy robots, rewatching Megan would likely be a better choice.
