Even with its respectable performers, *SoulBoy* fails to offer an enjoyable experience. The narrative felt familiar, echoing stories I’d encountered previously, and much of it was easy to anticipate. Beyond the predictability, watching events play out proved somewhat uncomfortable. It initially seemed like a low-budget effort to mimic *Kevin & Perry Go Large* or *The Inbetweeners*, although it does eventually move away from that formula. The 1970s aesthetic is at least presented effectively. Martin Compston, prior to his role in *Line of Duty*, takes the lead alongside Craig Parkinson—who would later collaborate with Compston more successfully on that television series—as well as Felicity Jones, Alfie Allen, and Nichola Burley. Bruce Jones, recognized in the UK for his work on *Coronation Street*, also appears. It’s disappointing to find I didn't appreciate this 2010 film, given the quality of the actors involved for a movie like this.
