Soul, Disney Pixar’s newest movie, is a gorgeous film that prompts reflection on existence, its worth, and the wonder within it. The story centers around a man whose accidental fall results in his death. Refusing to accept this fate, he embarks on a journey through the afterlife, striving to return to his body, which remains in a coma back on Earth. Considering it’s geared toward children, Soul delves into surprisingly profound subjects; some might even say excessively so for younger viewers. The movie explores existential ideas like finding one's reason for being and what life means, prompting contemplation about our own lives. The characters are exceptionally well-developed, particularly the main ones, possessing intricate qualities that evoke a wide range of emotions. The voice actors do an admirable job conveying these feelings. As expected from Pixar, the animation is stunning—a true work of art where each frame bursts with vibrant colors and fluid motion for the entire two-hour runtime. Witnessing life unfold on screen is truly enchanting; the realism in certain moments will likely impress audiences. Younger viewers might struggle to grasp the film's complexities, and it may not be as consistently captivating as some other popular animated movies due to its less energetic pace. Nevertheless, there’s a valuable lesson embedded within, and encouraging children to engage with it would be a good approach when watching Soul.
