I hadn’t experienced the initial film or any of the video games, yet I ended up appreciating this animated movie considerably. "Sonic" is set on a path to utilize his abilities as a crime fighter, but he often creates more chaos than those committing offenses! The villainous "Robotnik" makes an escape from confinement—a very distant one—and reappears with the echidna ("Knuckles"), placing our blue protagonist and his loved ones in significant danger. Fortunately, assistance arrives via the two-tailed character, "Tails," and a competition begins: who will locate the massive emerald? The narrative feels familiar; it borrows elements from films like "Indiana Jones," "National Treasure," and even "Guardians of the Galaxy," resulting in a somewhat predictable and thin plot. Despite that, there's enough humor and substance to entertain adult viewers as well. "Sonic" is genuinely charming, and Jim Carrey’s over-the-top portrayal of a mustachioed, power-hungry villain is quite entertaining. The standout performer, however, is Natasha Rothwell playing “Rachel,” the assertive, would-be bride—a plot thread that didn't entirely resonate, but her character isn’t someone you want to cross. The special effects are visually striking, and while the film might be around fifteen minutes too long, I still thought it was much better than I anticipated.
