Wuchak on Something's Gotta Give

7/10 · Aug 16, 2020

A man known for pursuing much younger women finds his perspective shifting during a stay at a playwright’s home in the Hamptons. Jack Nicholson portrays this character, with Diane Keaton as the playwright. Amanda Peet appears as her daughter, Frances McDormand as her sister, and Keanu Reeves as a physician who lives nearby. Nancy Meyer penned and directed "Something's Gotta Give" (2003), delivering a diverting romantic comedy that explores the idea of relationships between people with significant age differences and also touches on moments of realization and discovering your ideal partner. Though there are brief nude scenes intended for comedic effect, the film avoids the crude or overtly humorous elements found in some other romcoms—films like “She’s Out of My League” (2010) would have been better off without that kind of humor. The movie has a runtime of 2 hours and 8 minutes and was filmed in The Hamptons, Long Island & New York City, as well as Warner Brothers Burbank Studios & Santa Monica, CA, and Paris, France. GRADE: B
