During 17th-century England, a fierce fighter attempts to find his way again. I watched this after waiting quite some time, and I have to say I was rather impressed with how it looked. Ultimately, though, it felt like an ordinary movie to me. James Purefoy did a decent job, but the role of Solomon really needed someone who appeared more imposing. That’s what diminished my enjoyment; otherwise, I liked most of it. The film's atmosphere and rhythm were well done, even if the plot was fairly obvious. The story follows a brutal warrior guiding his soldiers through Northern Africa. Just as he believes victory is at hand, he realizes his spirit is lost. He flees, abandoning everything, in search of serenity. He was destined to be a soldier, which explains why he abandoned his homeland. Now, given this opportunity to redefine himself, he has to accomplish the seemingly unachievable to overcome his adversary. The dark and damp visuals create an authentic medieval feel. The settings were utilized effectively, as were the costumes; if you appreciate films set in that time period, especially those with action sequences, you might find something to like here. However, I'd describe it as a film best viewed once. It’s certainly entertaining, but something prevents it from feeling entirely finished. I suggest it for certain viewers. _6/10_
