The follow-up film, Smile 2 (2024), moves past simply exploring the supernatural affliction to offer a horror story that’s more focused on psychological and emotional elements—specifically trauma, feelings of responsibility, and a decline in mental stability. The characters are better developed this time around, and there are disturbing visual effects combined with solid technical work, which makes the sequel better than the first one, even though it sometimes becomes hard to tell what's real and what isn’t. It demonstrates that true horror comes not from the curse itself, but from the dread of losing command over your own thoughts.
