This horror movie is ideal for having on while doing things like making TikToks—I’m not really sure what else to say about it. It seems like the script was written using text abbreviations and emojis. I don't know if this is a Blumhouse production, and honestly, I didn’t feel invested enough to look into it. If you watched the first one, you already understand the premise: predictable “jump scares” that depend on loud noises and blood effects suitable for a younger audience. There’s nothing surprising, frightening, or captivating about it, and the performances are awful—that might be the most startling thing of all. The actor who was in *The White Lotus* has shown talent elsewhere, but he's not convincing during his brief appearance. Naomi Scott moves around like a less heavy-set version of Florence Pugh, but with even less personality. She’s portraying a pop star, which is a misguided plot point that results in AI-generated music that sounds surprisingly out-of-date. The movie would have been much better if it had just shown Scott being attacked with a screwdriver for about 80 minutes, but instead we get two hours of something average. Apparently, it made money—so I suppose *Smile 3* is on the way. Hopefully, that will be entirely an AI project and won’t involve any real people working on it.
