Small Things Like These proved to be captivating. I received precisely what I was looking for with this film. It unfolds deliberately, a restrained movie anchored by an excellent, though not overly flashy, portrayal from Cillian Murphy. The rhythm is well-managed and the narrative is certainly compelling; there's a considerable amount of feeling contained within it. The ending felt somewhat sudden; I actually heard someone close to me comment that "that can’t be it" when the screen faded to black. However, this didn't detract from my experience. I had a sense going in that it would simply recount its story and finish, which is exactly what it does. While Cillian Murphy truly distinguishes himself over these 98 minutes, praise should also go to Eileen Walsh, Emily Watson, and Zara Devlin for their contributions in supporting parts. Every performance felt solid. Overall, it’s clearly a very skillfully crafted film—one that I would suggest seeing!
