Early in the 1900s, a young woman named "Agata" (played by Celeste Cescutti) experiences a heartbreaking pregnancy ending with the death of her infant daughter before she could be baptized. Agata grieves not only for her loss but also because her child missed out on the possibility of eternal peace in Heaven. She then learns about a secluded church located far to the north, where it’s said they can temporarily revive the deceased so that they may receive the sacrament. Carrying her baby's remains and with very few possessions, she begins a solitary journey. During this trek, she meets "Lynx" (Ondina Quadri), who offers assistance but is revealed to be part of a group of bandits planning to exploit Agata as a wet nurse. However, they are subsequently attacked, freeing both women to continue their travels as winter approaches and conditions worsen physically and emotionally. Despite the lack of confidence between them, these two women must find ways to work together if they hope to survive, perhaps even finding some measure of redemption along the way. This is an affecting narrative centered on superstition, but it also highlights the extraordinary lengths a mother will go to for her child—even after death. Cescutti portrays Agata’s determined yet fragile character effectively, and both actresses bring depth to this straightforward story from auteur Laura Samani. The film features minimal dialogue, but what is present, combined with Fredrika Stahl's score, creates an experience reminiscent of biblical journeys that deserves attention.
