Nemo (Marlow Barkley) has a life that sounds pretty wonderful – she resides in a lighthouse! After a storm one night leads to a sad event, she’s forced to move into the city and live with her uncle Philip (Chris O'Dowd). He's a quiet man who designs door handles, and he does quite well at it. Having difficulty adjusting to her new surroundings, Nemo finds her dreams growing increasingly strange after meeting Flip (Jason Momoa). This is someone her father used to tell her exciting stories about, and now it seems he’s searching for a map that could lead them to pearls – something they both really want. It's not just any map; it’s one made of dreams, and together they embark on some wild adventures as they sneak into other people’s nighttime visions. Naturally, this kind of behavior isn’t permitted, and they find themselves being chased by Agent Green (Weruche Opia) from the Bureau responsible for stopping these activities, in addition to Nemo's own nightmares which threaten to overwhelm everything. While Momoa seems to be having fun with the role, his portrayal feels a bit too exaggerated; I couldn't help but think that Antonio Banderas or Geoffrey Rush might have been more suitable choices. Barkley is energetic and quite captivating, and the special effects are inventive, imaginative, and brought to life beautifully. The story does tend to repeat itself, which isn’t always an advantage, and it’s a very basic fairy tale-like story that possesses a certain appeal – especially her stuffed pig – but feels too slight to fill out its lengthy two-hour running time. It's obviously Netflix's effort to break into the Christmas family film market, but I can’t picture many children making it through the whole thing, particularly the long and drawn-out ending.
