This movie delivers a series of unexpected moments. Perhaps those unfamiliar with the original will find it more appealing, especially if they appreciate stories centered on conflicts between law enforcement and criminals. This marks my third viewing within the past three years; after the initial French film adapted from the book, came 'Thoongavanam,' a remake made in Kollywood. That second adaptation wasn’t terrible, given the constraints of Indian filmmaking. While not drastically altered, this version felt overly ambitious—the beginning mirrored previous iterations, but what followed was excessive, essentially doubling the thriller aspect with intense action. The filmmakers clearly aimed to leave the ending unresolved, setting up a potential sequel, which seemed contrived and might disappoint fans of earlier versions. The performances were generally strong; Michelle Monaghan stood out as particularly effective. I’m unsure how her character was reimagined, but it felt significantly more impactful than in other adaptations. This is a drawback considering Jamie Foxx's role as the protagonist. Objectively speaking, it isn't an unpleasant remake. The humor referencing immigrants has been removed, likely due to current sensitivities in the United States. Additionally, many scenes and transitions were sped up, resulting in rapid camera movements unlike what’s seen elsewhere. These alterations felt necessary considering this wasn't a completely original work or even a first adaptation. However, as I mentioned, too much alteration ultimately detracted from the experience, despite it being worth watching once. _6/10_
