A group of eight former American high school students gather for a reunion at their closed-down school. Unbeknownst to them, the classmate they tormented and negatively impacted is present, seeking retribution with deadly consequences. The rundown school setting in “Slaughter High” (1986) brings to mind "Death Tunnel" (2005), but this earlier film doesn't measure up; it’s noticeably less polished and visually appealing than that later production. Whether or not you enjoy "Death Tunnel" is beside the point, as its professional quality—including impressive visuals, modern editing techniques, a strong female cast, and an excellent musical score—is undeniable. Consequently, “Slaughter High” feels like a typical lower-budget 1980s slasher film in terms of production values; it’s arguably even below average. While the soundtrack is dated and there's some campiness, especially surrounding the character of the nerd, the movie is otherwise acceptable for what it aims to be. Those involved seemed aware that it wasn’t a high-end project but still tried their best to entertain viewers. The film concludes with an unexpected plot development that was handled more effectively in “Slumber Party Massacre II,” released a year later. Caroline Munro, at 36 during filming, appeared somewhat too old to portray a teenage high school student and aspiring actress in the second half of the movie, but her attractiveness helped overcome this issue. Her peak years were in the 1970s, and her career was declining at that time, though she didn’t seem concerned about it. Kelly Baker deserves recognition for her role as Nancy, and Carmine Iannaccone is likable as Skip. Sadly, Simon Scudamore, who portrayed the nerd, died by apparent suicide on November 21, 1984, after finishing work on the film, due to an intentional drug overdose. The movie has a running time of 1 hour and 30 minutes. Filming took place in England at various locations including St. Marylebone Grammar School in London (for school interiors), Holloway Sanatorium in Surrey (for exterior shots of the school), London (apartment scenes), and Wentworth Golf Club in Surrey (the stretch of road where a car breaks down).
