Hanu Raghavapudi’s Sita Ramam is a period romance with striking visuals that connects love to the historical setting of disagreements between India and Pakistan. The story centers on Ram (Dulquer Salmaan), an Indian Army officer, and Sita (Mrunal Thakur), whose relationship develops through correspondence spanning twenty years, eventually leading to Afreen's (Rashmika Mandanna) search to deliver a letter that was never sent. My time with Sita Ramam proved to be quite moving. The visuals and musical score were remarkable, establishing an immersive feeling that really held my attention. Dulquer Salmaan gave a particularly appealing performance, and his connection with Mrunal Thakur seemed real. I did notice the film’s speed fluctuated; running 163 minutes, it occasionally felt too long, and certain side stories diverted focus from the main romance. While Sita Ramam tried to explore ideas about love overcoming boundaries of faith and nationhood, some aspects felt a little forced. Even with these issues, I was affected by the film because of its sincere moments and the touching depiction of affection during times of disagreement. It’s ultimately a movie that sticks with you due to its combination of beauty and depth.
