I’m openly admitting that I've spent time in Clarksdale, Mississippi, and found it wonderful. This movie feels similar to what one might imagine Morgan Freeman’s juke joint to be like. I personally preferred the smaller, more personal feel of Red’s place. The central portion felt slow-moving. Scenes involving gatherings weren’t particularly engaging. There are bursts of fast-paced action that provide some energy, but it's a lengthy film nonetheless. It's frustrating when movies stretch on and on—and the conclusion is excessively prolonged too. The way survival seemed so unattainable diminished any real sense of tension. Ultimately, it comes across as an overstuffed juke joint. However, there’s undeniable enjoyment in watching people kill members of the Klan and vampires. The action sequences are well-done. There's a playful incorporation of customs and traditions. And the characters are easy to root for.
