While my enjoyment didn't quite match what I’ve heard from others or read in professional reviews, I do believe this movie succeeded in roughly 85% of its ambitions. The visual elements—the setting, music, costumes, makeup, gore, and special effects—were all exceptionally well-executed. The acting is strong throughout, with Delroy Lindo being particularly memorable, and experiencing it on the big screen was worthwhile. My reservations come down to a few points: the conclusion felt hurried, there are some surreal scenes that seem jarringly misplaced, and the antagonist wasn’t very compelling. Even though the film's already lengthy, I believe adding another ten minutes showcasing the villain’s early encounters and incorporating some flashbacks would have improved it. I also wonder if this narrative might have been more effective as a television series; even so, it remains an original and entertaining movie, bringing to mind the initial season of Interview with a Vampire.
