“Sing 2” proves to be a delightful continuation of the initial "Sing" from 2016, standing out as one of those uncommon sequels that actually manages to improve upon what came before. The story picks up with Buster Moon (Matthew McConaughey) and his group celebrating sold-out performances at their theater. However, content with local success isn't enough for Buster; he and the team decide to head to a major city to produce and perform a show for Bigshot Jimmy Crystal (Bobby Cannavale), who is known for being completely without mercy. After some maneuvering to get an audition, Buster promises that their upcoming production will include Clay Calloway (Bono), a legendary rock star who has withdrawn from public life over the last fifteen years. Jimmy becomes interested and gives Buster a shot, but also insists his daughter Porsha (Halsey) be included in the show, even though her acting skills are awkward despite her talent as a singer. The rest of the movie is a wild adventure packed with music and comedy, showing how the group frantically works to prepare for the show while avoiding the volatile Jimmy Crystal. The soundtrack is really good, and the voice cast remains consistently entertaining. I was hoping Seth MacFarlane would be back, but the performances from Taron Egerton, Reese Witherspoon, Scarlett Johansson, and everyone else are more than satisfactory. If you were a fan of the first movie and want some lighthearted entertainment for the whole family, “Sing 2” is a successful offering. 4 stars out of 5
