Who could have done more to enhance the reputation of Sinbad? Richard Wallace directed *Sinbad the Sailor*, with a script by John Twist and George Worthing Yates. The film features Douglas Fairbanks Junior, Maureen O’Hara, Walter Slezak, Anthony Quinn, George Tobias, and Jane Greer. Roy Webb composed the music, and George Barnes handled the Technicolor cinematography. Sinbad (Fairbanks Jr.) recounts his Eighth Voyage, a journey to the legendary island of Deryabar in pursuit of Alexander the Great's hidden riches. There’s plenty to appreciate about *Sinbad the Sailor*, including the vibrant color photography, expertly built sets and backdrops, Roy Webb’s stirring musical score, eye-catching costumes, and Fairbanks Junior’s boundless energy and physical abilities. The problem is that RKO didn’t fully commit, allowing the writers to produce a script that's overly wordy and stretched out to almost two hours. For a family adventure film of this kind, there isn’t enough action to keep audiences engaged. When it does appear, the action sequences are well-executed and welcome distractions, but they’re inevitably followed by more extended stretches of dialogue that aren’t particularly compelling. Despite these flaws, the positive aspects make enduring the two-hour runtime worthwhile. Even the casting choices—American, Irish, Austrian, and Mexican actors portraying Asian characters—can be overlooked considering the enthusiasm and appeal they bring to their parts. However, don't believe the poster's claim that it’s "One Of The Greatest Adventures Of All Times"; that would have been accurate if they had trimmed approximately 30 minutes from the first hour! 6/10
