Jennifer Lawrence delivers a truly remarkable performance in _Silver Linings_. It’s an exceptional portrayal, and she absolutely succeeds. I haven't seen such a convincing depiction of a character like this since Jennifer Jason Lee was in _Last Exit to Brooklyn_. She is more than worthy of the Oscar for best actress, and any other awards the film may receive, because her performance is what puts it in contention. It’s not simple playing someone who exists outside conventional morality, and even harder to earn empathy for that character. We can't know if this person’s behavior stems from innate tendencies or choices they've made. There’s a certain appeal to the figure of a woman living openly as she pleases, though often these women are trapped by circumstance—forced into their situations through financial need or pressure from men. They are usually presented as victims with an underlying kindness. But a character driven by uncontrollable urges feels less appealing and lacks that emotional connection. Why should we invest in her story? It seems clear this person either can’t satisfy their desires or is constantly searching for validation from others, which comes across as disheartening. Lawrence completely embodies the role, throwing herself into it entirely—perhaps even redefining how such characters are portrayed. This film will likely become essential viewing for those studying psychology. Bradley Cooper does a good job reacting to the story's events, but you can tell he’s acting. It was well done, Mr. Cooper; perhaps no one else could have played it as effectively. However, with Ms. Lawrence, we are completely drawn in. She surpasses everyone around her with skill and precision. Daniel Day-Lewis—playing Lincoln—must be glad there's a separation between the awards for male and female actors. Lawrence is so convincing as this unapologetic character that you wonder if she’s not acting at all, but rather exposing her vulnerabilities and imperfections. And that’s what makes her performance so captivating.
