The character "Franky" (Vicky Knight) works as a nurse and is still dealing with trauma from a fire that occurred fifteen years prior, which left her with both physical marks and deep emotional scars. She believes her mother’s friend, “Jane,” was to blame for the event, though she lacks any real evidence. Due to an inability to maintain stable relationships, Franky drifts through life until meeting "Florence" (Esme Creed-Miles). This encounter takes her by surprise as she develops strong feelings and they run away together. Their time spent together isn't always easy, but it does offer a chance for them to plan retribution. However, it’s unclear if that’s truly what Franky desires, or whether she’s simply become conditioned to seek vengeance and can’t find a way to heal. The narrative shifts when she learns her grandmother, “Alice” (Angela Bruce), has cancer; subsequently, the heightened emotions subside and the story seems to lose its momentum. With the exception of one particularly unpleasant scene on public transportation – which may be inspired by actual incidents in London – the rest unfolds as a fairly ordinary love story (though it isn't presented as a romance) centered around characters who are difficult to connect with, and about whom I lost interest roughly twenty minutes into their stereotypical and profane introductions. The performances are somewhat intense, but they’re shown using a pseudo-documentary style at times, then switching to a more conventional dramatic format, neither of which is particularly captivating. It's a fabricated story of growing up that lacks both originality and significance; I’m sorry to say.
