The movie centers on a botanist—played by Bruce Dern—who’s out in space and attempting to prevent a corporation from eliminating his little "forest" that he keeps on his spaceship. When the other crew members choose to follow through with those instructions, he takes action himself. There's something about it that hints at what might be ahead, and it carries a sense of sadness regarding not realizing the value of something until it’s gone. This is the initial film I can think of featuring robots—specifically, drones—Huey and Dewey (Louie isn’t working), which do provide some welcome moments of levity to this fairly deliberate science fiction narrative. It's clear that there’s a point being made about things like climate change and rising temperatures, but eventually it feels overly emphasized and the story drags on at an extremely slow rate before concluding rather suddenly. It’s worth watching, though not quite something I would call a masterpiece.
