It’s remarkable how much potential there was for disaster with this film; it easily could have fallen apart under less skilled guidance. The idea of blending a pandemic and slasher elements doesn’t immediately inspire confidence, and although the screenplay isn't flawless in depicting the initial stages of the crisis, SICK manages to be an intense, gripping, and well-timed thriller. John Hyams’s direction significantly improves what he was given, and I am now eager to witness his future endeavors on a larger scale. The film’s second portion, which essentially unfolds as a prolonged pursuit sequence, stands out as some of the most exhilarating genre cinema I've encountered recently. It’s disappointing that something so well-made ended up being released directly onto a streaming platform; experiencing it in a theater with an audience would have been ideal.
