The ruler announced his disinterest in another chapter, so he passed away and bequeathed the realm to "Fiona" and "Shrek." He’d honestly prefer to remain at home and let someone else handle the responsibilities of leadership. An idea struck him: locate the celebrated "Prince Artie" and see if he'd be willing to assume the position. Thus, he, "Donkey," and "Puss in Boots" embarked on their mission, unaware that "Prince Charming" was also vying for the throne and had assembled a force drawn directly from the Brothers Grimm fairy tales to carry out his schemes through charm and deception. Will our courageous group be able to foil his plot, locate the lost prince, and return home before “Fiona” becomes a mother? I found this rather unoriginal story quite agreeable, perhaps because "Donkey’s" irritating presence is minimized, and their journey incorporates elements of other fantasies and Arthurian legends, with sufficient action to sustain interest for ninety minutes. It was inevitably challenging to maintain the characters' appeal after six years had passed, and the writing lacks the previous cleverness, but the core personalities remain appealing, and the hero/anti-hero dynamic occasionally elicited a chuckle. Perhaps Dreamworks should consider ending the series now?
