Vincent Price takes center stage for the first time as the unpleasant "Dr. Richard Cross," who unintentionally causes his wife's death with a candlestick during an argument in the lounge. A patient, Anabel Shaw ("Janet Stewart"), awakens from sedation due to the commotion and observes the incident. When he realizes she’s aware of what happened, Dr. Cross, along with his mistress Lynn Bari ("Nurse Elaine"), has her committed to his sanitarium, where they employ various methods to silence her before law enforcement uncovers the facts. Serving as a preview of what Price would bring to the screen, this is an enjoyable B-noir film. The acting is satisfactory, and so is the writing; despite knowing all the details about the crime from the beginning, the story maintains considerable suspense—thanks in part to David Buttolph’s effective score and a particularly dramatic thunderstorm.
