It's a familiar narrative: a young man experiences romantic feelings, but the woman he desires is hampered by personal problems and keeps him at arm’s length, only to eventually reconcile. Perhaps it will resonate with younger viewers experiencing their initial disappointments in love, though for someone like myself who has already been through that process, it's simply Been There, Done That. What makes the film somewhat noteworthy is its illustration of a basic aspect of human nature. Through years of experience and observation, I’ve come to believe that people reveal their true selves from the start; we just fail to hear it because humans are generally poor listeners. "Shithouse" vividly showcases this pattern early on. The female character openly admits her previous relationship ended because she was unfaithful. And yet, the male lead still pursues a connection with her. Predictably, he suffers emotional distress. He wasn't paying attention; the warning signals were obvious and undeniable—if only he’d been observant. Honestly, when you encounter someone new, listen carefully as if you were investigating a case. They will reveal their character in that initial interaction.
