It appeared initially as if this would be yet another film relying on the found footage format, lacking the potential that "Grave Encounters" possessed. Surprisingly, though, the movie moves beyond that style of filmmaking and expands into a more conventional horror approach, which ultimately enhances it. The actors are well-chosen, the characters are likable, the direction is effective, and even with some inconsistencies in the narrative, it's far from being an unsuccessful film.
