"She Rides Shotgun" ranks among the stronger movies released this year. This adaptation’s greatest asset is the captivating and genuinely affecting portrayals delivered by Taron Egerton and Ana Sophia Heger. It centers on a father and daughter whose relationship, though troubled and inevitably tragic, is fueled by a profound affection within a harsh environment where those who are vulnerable face exploitation. My concerns primarily involve the film’s exploration of social inequality, which seemed diluted; this isn't helped by assigning criminality based on ethnicity. Also, the portrayal of the US system for orphaned children felt overly idealized, given its known shortcomings. Overall, "She Rides Shotgun" is a noteworthy piece of work. The emotional resonance and the remarkable connection between the two leads are what truly set it apart. It's not flawless, to be sure, but it surpasses most films from 2025 so far, making it worth seeing.
