It was an unpleasant experience that I doubt I’ll repeat, and I can’t suggest anyone else see it either. The film has a strange aesthetic; it resembles something produced in 2013 despite being released in 2019. Though some scenes feature contemporary cinematography involving the ocean, the computer-generated shark looks like leftover visual effects from an earlier production. I believe the actresses performed admirably considering the material they were provided—which was obviously limited—but the script is so poorly organized and written that it often defies logic and feels as though several different films have been spliced together. Although Michael Madsen is a capable actor, his direction seemed unusual. His performance comes across more like an unhinged antagonist outlining his scheme than a worried parent; he uses virtually the same tone of voice when saying “I hope you’re okay, my daughter” and “you better save my daughter or I'll kill you.” The character on the boat is baffling no matter how you try to interpret it. He speaks with an odd, detached manner. You could remove him from the film entirely and it would arguably make more sense, even if his dialogue wasn’t subtitled as phone conversations. Ultimately, a significant portion of the movie revolves around attractive young women facing peril while attempting to evade, outrun, or confront a shark. I'm not claiming that some viewers won't find enjoyment in this film, but be aware of what you're signing up for; I’ve done my part to warn you against watching it.
