"Shanghai Noon," appearing in 2000, presents Jackie Chan as Chon Wang—a playful nod to John Wayne—who joins forces with Roy O'Bannon (Owen Wilson), a character described as a good bad-guy. Their mission involves tracking either the Empress of China or a shipment of gold, leading them through various comical situations. It didn’t really click until later that the movie title is a joke referencing "High Noon." Regardless, if you’re looking for something similar to an Indiana Jones film, such as “The Mummy” from 1999, this one fits the bill. While it doesn't quite reach the heights of "Raiders of the Lost Ark," it surpasses those that followed. Chan and Wilson have a really good rapport together, and the jokes are genuinely funny, like the reference to Wyatt Earp at the very end. As you’d expect with Jackie Chan, the action sequences are impressive, although they get a little excessive and stretched out toward the finale—a common trait in Hollywood productions. The film's length is 110 minutes, and filming took place in Alberta, Canada, as well as in Beijing's Forbidden City. GRADE: B
