This film easily ranks among my all-time favorites; each viewing reveals fresh details. The story involves thieves taking food from farmers, who then employ wandering samurai warriors for protection. It boasts a strong narrative, good rhythm, and excellent performances. Many consider it Akira Kurosawa's finest work... possibly.
