A Confederate officer seeking retribution (Liam Neeson) sets out with a few men to track down the Union soldier who inflicted a terrible injustice upon him years before. The man he’s pursuing is also highly trained in combat and adept at surviving in the wilderness, which creates something of an issue. This revenge Western works quite well, showcasing impressive and diverse landscapes (listed further on). Those who only know Pierce Brosnan from his days as James Bond will be surprised to see how different he looks playing a hardened military figure reminiscent of Rambo. The overall feel is comparable to other Westerns released around the same time like “The Missing” (2003) and “September Dawn” (2007), though it centers on a pursuit-and-revenge storyline. The story takes an unexpected turn toward the mystical in its final portion, introducing characters such as Mr. Charon (Wes Studi) and Louise C. Fair (Angelica Huston). It's not difficult to understand their true identities. The film’s length is 1 hour, 55 minutes, and filming took place across several states: Oregon (McKenzie River, Sahalie Falls and Koosah Falls), New Mexico (Lordsburg, Taos, Bramlett and Santa Fe), Arizona (Willcox Playa, Pirtleville, San Bernardino Valley and Chiricahua National Monument) and Death Valley National Park in California.
