I wasn’t familiar with the true story behind *September 5*, even though I follow sports—though I wouldn’t consider myself a huge Olympics fan. The event itself seemed vaguely recognizable before seeing the film, but not as much as other Olympic happenings might have. Because of this, I went in without knowing how things would unfold, which turned out to be really helpful. It allowed me to experience the dramatic and unsettling turns of events organically. The filmmakers did a great job with the storytelling; they established an ideal atmosphere and rhythm from beginning to end. The performances are strong across the board as well. John Magaro was particularly noteworthy, but Peter Sarsgaard, Ben Chaplin, and Leonie Benesch also deliver excellent work. It’s interesting to witness events through the lens of the media, especially how they presented it—things like the graphics used during the broadcast were a notable detail.
