Sam Raimi’s Send Help offers an unsettling and darkly humorous look at how fragile societal norms really are, largely thanks to two outstanding performances. The plot centers around Linda Liddle, a quiet and underappreciated worker who unexpectedly becomes the guardian of her condescending and inept employer, Bradley Preston, following a plane crash that strands them on a secluded island. Initially presented as a survival story, it swiftly transforms into a tense psychological battle for dominance. The change in focus—from rescuing the boss to contending with him, ultimately dominating him—is portrayed with a sharp, darkly humorous edge that maintains suspense throughout. It’s the acting that really pushes this film toward its high rating. Rachel McAdams gives what feels like her finest performance yet; she skillfully portrays Linda's transformation from a shy office worker into a fierce, somewhat unstable survivor. The shift in her expression—from genuine terror to an icy, calculating gaze—is genuinely unsettling. Dylan O’Brien is also excellent as the privileged Bradley, managing to be despicable enough that you want bad things to happen to him, but also showing moments of vulnerability that make the island's harshness feel intensely real. Their combined performances take a basic survival scenario and turn it into an intense examination of character, demonstrating that on a deserted island, the greatest threat isn’t nature—it’s the person with access to resources.
