This is a solid biographical film, largely thanks to strong performances from Jennifer Lopez and Edward James Olmos. The directing felt uneven at times, which holds the movie back somewhat, although the scenes recreating concerts appeared well-executed. I also wished there had been more exploration of the relationship between Selena and Yolanda Saldívar, the person responsible for her death; otherwise, it’s a respectable depiction of a gifted musician beginning her career. **3.75/5**
