It feels like something I should do based on principles of fairness and what’s right, not because someone is forcing my hand. Following the violent rape of his wife (January Jones), New Orleans educator Will Gerard (Nic Cage) becomes entangled with a clandestine group of vigilantes led by Simon (Guy Pearce). The idea of returning favors to achieve justice initially appears workable, but there's more beneath the surface... To be honest, it’s simply another entry in the seemingly endless stream of vigilante movies released regularly. It’s uncommon these days for such films to offer something substantial or make viewers think differently. *Justice* (also known as *Seeking Justice*) begins with considerable promise, immediately captivating and establishing a distinct mood. Unfortunately, around halfway through, things become absurd (though Cage maintains his intense demeanor), and despite attempts to incorporate familiar thriller elements, any chance of meaningful depth has vanished. Still, as an intrigue-driven drama, it’s reasonably entertaining, with director Roger Donaldson (*No Way Out*, *Thirteen Days*) skilled at creating suspenseful scenes. However, the absence of energetic action sequences is noticeable; there's a sense that Donaldson and his team were unsure of the film’s direction. Should they maintain a shadowy, subtle approach, or should they include high-speed chases and dangerous situations? *Justice* ends up being an inconsistent combination of approaches. It’s also regrettable to see Xander Berkeley and the New Orleans settings go underutilized. It's not terrible; it's better than average, but ultimately forgettable and a missed chance to explore a significant theme in film. 6/10
