The acting from Diane Lane and John Malkovich was genuinely enjoyable; while the movie itself doesn’t quite live up to their contributions, it remains an agreeable experience. This is yet another sports-themed film from Disney, focusing on horses—a subject they've explored repeatedly over the years. It doesn't come close to achieving the considerable heights of 1976's *'The Littlest Horse Thieves'* or 1991’s *'Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken'*. Despite that, *'Secretariat'* manages to provide a worthwhile viewing. Lane and Malkovich have a good rapport, with Lane being especially noteworthy. Margo Martindale appears again, portraying a kind and endearing character, which seems to be her specialty—she’s ideally suited for those kinds of parts. It was also nice seeing James Cromwell. The film's visuals are well-done, and the story unfolds at a good pace. There are moments when it feels somewhat lacking in depth, but that can be difficult to avoid given the inherently repetitive nature of horse racing, even when the subject matter is as compelling as Secretariat and Penny Chenery’s story.
