During the summer of ’62, a young boy who tends to be withdrawn and quiet is left with his two great-uncles in rural central Texas. His mother, who seems unreliable, brings him to the men’s isolated home, while other family members are focused on rumors of a secret fortune they believe the uncles possess. What the boy really wants is their affection, guidance, and understanding. "Secondhand Lions," released in 2003, feels like a blend of several films—it recalls “A Perfect World,” “Sling Blade,” and has some of the fun you’d find in an Indiana Jones movie, along with touches reminiscent of "Simon Birch" and "O Brother, Where Art Thou?".
