The film centers around “Max” (Ruaridh Mollica), who balances trying to establish himself as both a journalist and an author while also working as an escort for affluent men, primarily older ones, at a rate of £200 per hour. His youthful appearance and relative inexperience in that line of work contribute to his popularity, allowing him to draw on these experiences to write a book. The publisher appreciates the novelty and personal nature of “Sebastian’s” exploits, but a professional issue he creates himself leads to shifts in both his career and creative process. While there are occasional sexual encounters sprinkled throughout, the film largely presents a superficial look at the world of luxury services. Mollica is pleasant enough to watch, but his acting seems to depend too heavily on his looks and feels uninspired. The narrative has several inconsistencies; events don’t always align chronologically, and by the end, it felt as though we hadn't received any meaningful commentary about an industry that touches so many parts of life. Instead, the movie seemed to portray a rather exploitative – even callous – individual who I found myself losing interest in. Jonathan Hyde lends some (somewhat melancholy) depth to the story, but Ingvar Sigurdsson’s portrayal of “Daniel” felt too extreme and unpredictable to be believable at a key point in the young man's increasingly flimsy storyline. Perhaps it would have been better suited as a limited television series, allowing for a more concentrated exploration of his life, relationships, and personal growth; as is, it feels disjointed. It’s okay enough to watch, but ultimately falls short of its potential.
