I was honestly surprised to find that I didn’t really enjoy 'Scrooged' very much. While watching, I just couldn’t seem to get into this movie from 1988. Bill Murray is alright, the Ghost of Christmas Past works well, and the parts involving Alfre Woodard's character are pretty good. Those are really the only things I can point to as positives, though. Something about the film's overall feel just didn’t sit right with me. I never felt a connection to Murray’s Frank, whether he was in the past, present, or future. I understand that you’re meant to dislike Scrooge, but having watched several different versions of 'A Christmas Carol', it seems like the character is typically more cowardly – mean behind people's backs or under his breath. Frank Cross, on the other hand, is openly and aggressively unpleasant. Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly, or it just stood out more because I didn’t find much else to appreciate in the roughly 100 minutes. As a Christmas movie, it doesn’t really capture that festive feeling either. It could have used some extra warmth, or at least a few genuinely entertaining or funny moments; I did manage a small chuckle here and there, but not nearly enough. I wouldn't go so far as to call this a "bad" film, but it definitely isn’t one I’d consider a favorite. I had hoped this would be good—many people seem to like it, which is understandable—but unfortunately, it just didn't do it for me.
