It’s worth giving this one a chance. The movie provides exactly what Bill Murray does best: a cynical and biting style that suits Frank Cross, the contemporary equivalent of Scrooge, wonderfully well. I've always thought his performances take some getting used to; I am certainly a fan and can happily rewatch his better films many times over, but it’s easy to see why he isn't everyone’s cup of tea. *Scrooged* is essentially a modern retelling of the familiar Christmas story, yet surprisingly doesn't sacrifice any of its heart because the central theme remains relevant in today's world. It’s an energetic and entertaining film; it’s loud and bold, but very funny, and I make sure to watch it every Christmas. And yes, I do enjoy it alongside the Alistair Sim version too, even though they are quite different, both manage to be enjoyable in their own ways. Karen Allen is a welcome addition alongside Murray, while actors like David Johansen and Robert Mitchum contribute to the film’s overall quality. It generally all comes together nicely, although I found Carol Kane's portrayal of The Ghost of Christmas Present more irritating than amusing—though that’s just my view, as many others clearly appreciate her lively performance. Filled with witty lines and a sincere message at its center, *Scrooged* is a genuinely clever and fun film to watch during the holidays. I needed that! 8/10
