This was my initial experience with an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ story – I really liked it! Before this, I had only seen the Disney animated version and the 2019 television series starring Guy Pearce. I appreciate both of those as well; they each have strengths and weaknesses compared to this 1951 film. Alastair Sim is, in my opinion, the finest Ebenezer Scrooge among the three versions, and I was captivated watching him from beginning to end. His facial expressions are wonderful throughout the movie, and his later joyfulness is truly contagious. It’s a remarkable performance! The other actors don't particularly distinguish themselves like those in the previous adaptations did, but George Cole (as young Scrooge) is agreeable, as are the performers playing the ghosts. Other things I enjoyed were the music, the way the suspense was built up, and the development of the main character – especially considering how unpleasant they portray him initially. The special effects haven’t aged particularly well, which is understandable given that it's nearly seventy years old; though, honestly, they look pretty good for 1951. I did notice some camera angles lingered a bit too long, and I would have liked to see more of Sim’s reactions when he was witnessing the past, present, and future – at times, they focused on the scene itself rather than showing his response. Those are just minor points, though. Overall, *Scrooge* is a really good film—definitely worth watching!
