Ghostface holds a special place for me among movie villains, and I have affection for all the initial four movies—even _Scream 3_ and Gale’s unfortunate hairstyle—recognizing they aren't perfect. My enthusiasm means I will always watch and back any new addition to the _Scream_ franchise, whether it’s a film or television series. While this latest entry has been commercially successful ($88.4 million worldwide box office gross as of now) and some viewers found enjoyment in it, it's genuinely my least favorite part of the whole series. The movie seems to be straining to emulate the feel of the original _Scream_ films when it should have forged its own path instead. The film itself acknowledges this problem, but fresh ideas are preferable to repeating what’s already been done; particularly when the deaths seem repetitive.
