It’s acceptable as another installment in the series. The change of scenery and new settings offer a welcome breath of fresh air to the franchise. The deaths are more graphic than ever before, elevating the entertainment value of a story that moves along at a brisk pace. Melissa Barrera demonstrates her ability to carry a film of this magnitude, though Jenna Ortega’s performance stands out considerably. Regrettably, the final section doesn't work well; it feels foreseeable, contrived, and disappointing, failing to weave together all its self-aware elements – suffering from a lack of elaboration or narrative substance. There are quite a few plot holes, even considering that this franchise isn’t known for being particularly concerned with realism. Rating: B-
