This installment is easily the weakest entry so far, feeling remarkably uninspired. While a few of the deaths were passable, almost everything else fell flat. It's clear that Neve Campbell and Courtney Cox participated primarily for financial reasons, which shows in their performances, and that’s understandable. The appearance of Mindy and Chad felt completely unnecessary; they seemed reluctant to be involved, leading one to suspect contractual obligations may have been at play. They weren't particularly memorable characters initially, and their presence didn't enhance the film. Isabel May was adequate in the role of Sidney’s daughter, and Joel McHale had a few decent moments, but it was evident that the script remained largely untouched after Patrick Dempsey (smartly) declined to participate. The quality of the writing was truly disappointing. Kevin Williamson has never been an exceptional writer beyond the initial 1996 *Scream*, but the dialogue here was exceptionally poor and the final reveal was incredibly foolish, one twist being predictable while the other bordered on ridiculous, especially considering how carelessly the reasons behind it were presented. Previously, I considered *Scream 3* and *Scream 6* to be equally the worst of the bunch, but this film surpasses them both. There’s no amount of sentimentality that could redeem it. I have no interest in rewatching it and would prefer if they ended the series here. **1.75/5**
