It’s been two years since the initial violence, and “Sidney” (Neve Campbell) has relocated to the Omega Beta Zeta fraternity house, attempting to resume her life. However, after a short time, this derivative and uninspired film quickly returns things to where they started when she sees on television that someone is back, targeting viewers at a preview screening of "Stab!" – a movie about her original horrifying ordeal. Then, her acquaintances begin disappearing, each death following the familiar slasher formula. The question becomes whether she and reporter “Gale Wethers” (Courteney Cox) can survive long enough to discover who is responsible for these terrible events. Unfortunately, this feels like a direct and rather obvious imitation of the first movie. It lacks any real suspense or fresh ideas, and the final twenty minutes verge on being ridiculous. Wes Craven usually has a knack for delivering effective action-horror films, but that talent seems to be missing here. The result is dull and repetitive; even with a capable cast, I found myself losing interest after just twenty minutes. Two hours feels like ninety minutes too long. I'm fairly sure there will be a "Scream 3," but I’m not expecting much from it.
