Normally, I wouldn’t give it such a high score... but this is a Scooby movie that came out in 2023. Velma isn't portrayed as being a lesbian, and the storyline doesn't revolve around her sexuality. The characters weren't altered to reflect different ethnicities. There are no openly gay characters either; although there’s one line that could be considered political commentary, it is largely free of politics. It’s completely devoid of political messaging! No lectures here! Ultimately, it’s simply a Scooby-Doo movie, and while not as good as many others, the absence of political themes is surprisingly welcome. It's much more enjoyable to watch an animated program intended for kids that isn't trying to teach you about politics. You can unwind and appreciate it without experiencing constant awkwardness or feeling like you’re being subjected to a pretentious lecture. There’s no need to wonder if Velma will have explicit romantic encounters with another woman. It's simply an enjoyable Scooby film free of political agendas, and I am thankful that they created it.
